The hexagrams of Justinian II from the first period of his reign are among the very rare coins, and the very small circulation of these silver issues is evidenced by the fact that no dedicated dies were made for their production, and they were struck with dies of the much more common solidi, as demonstrated by the researcher of byzantine coinage Philip Grierson.
